Chemicals and other toxic items
Detox Your Home is a free, mobile program run by Sustainability Victoria and is the most environmentally friendly way of disposing of unwanted chemicals from your home. You can drop off household chemicals at free Detox Your Home events, held regularly across Victoria. Registrations are essential. Find your next local event here.
Detox Your Home accepts household items with the following warnings: Corrosive 8, Oxidizing agent 5.1, Toxic 6.1, Flammable liquid 3, Flammable solid 4.1. Products with these warnings could include cleaning products, cosmetics, fire extinguishers, herbicides, pesticides, pool chemicals, fuel, coolant, break and transmission fluids, turps, paint strippers, glues and pharmaceuticals. Empty make up - glass bottles, pumps, caps, drippers, plastic tubes, bottles and containers, mascara tubes, wands and eyeliners, lip products, palettes and compacts.
Childrens toys - Toys that can NOT be recycled: books; batteries in toys; board games; wooden toys; Play-doh, paint and slime; pens, pencils, crayons or paint brushes; oversized toys such as bikes, scooters, skateboards; sports toys such as soccer goals.
